Email #16 - Get Ready for Shear Walls

After so many demolition pictures, it's about time to start paying attention to construction.

The attached photos show some of the preparatory work for the construction of the perimeter shear walls for seismic stability.

The top black & white photo shows the original 1909 condition of the brick wall on the east side of the North Wing, top floor.

The bottom two photos show the similar west wall in the South Wing after holes have been cut in the ceiling for the new shear wall that will be continuous from ground to roof. In the bottom photo I painted in YELLOW the light coming in from these new cuts.
