Email #48 - Basement Stairs Installed

The theme of this email is elusive. I put the two photos together without a clear story line, but I'll send them anyhow.

What was I thinking? Mainly blue and the lighting was really beautiful in both photos with strong reflected sunlight entering the building through temporary openings. That is obvious in the upper photo looking approx. south on the first floor. Note the profile of the grand staircase.

The bottom photo shows the newly installed stairs connecting the basement to the first floor above. These steel stairs are in exactly the same place as the 1909 steel stairs that were demolished last June (see email #cc). What makes this picture work is the strong reflected sunlight illuminating the underside of the steps on the right. Normally the underside would be quite dark, but for a brief period on a sunny day it looked like this.
