Roberson updates Freeway Park

Thursday March 2009

Landscape Architecture Associate Professor Iain Robertson created a plan in 2008 to update the five-acre Freeway Park in Seattle, increasing visibility by replacing trees and plants while staying true to the vision of Lawrence Halprin, whose firm designed the park more than 30 years ago. Replanting will take place over the next several years, which means visitors to the park (atop Interstate 5 between Seneca Street and the Washington State Convention Center) will gradually see the plant palette change over to an unassuming selection of natives and ornamentals that create movement, patterns and rest within an ultra-urban environment.
