In Memoriam: Duane Penttila
Saturday January 2007Duanue Penttila, 57, died on August 27, 2007. He was born May 19, 1950 in Ilwaco and grew up in Naselle. He attended UW (BLA ’76), and was a registered landscape architect since 1979. He was married to Ruth Duckering. After working in the Longview area for several years, Penttila joined Seattle Parks and Recreation in April 1980 as a senior landscape architect, was promoted to several positions before becoming Manager of Horticulture and Forestry and park horticulturist in 1997. He held a leadership role in the National Recreation and Parks Association Pacific Northwest Resource Management School; helped design and implement the Parks’ best management practices; and represented the City at the International Competition for Liveable Cities.
