Faculty Biography
Before moving to the Northwest, I lived in Wisconsin, Rhode Island, California, Michigan, and Texas. When I arrived in Seattle in 1987, I was struck by the many differences in the architecture and urban character of this city and the places I had lived previously. Seattle was winning recognition as one of the “best places to live” in the United States, but it seemed there were few historical accounts which explained how the particular form of this city and region had developed. Thus, a substantial portion of my research and writing over the past two decades has focused on the history of architecture and urban design in Seattle. Selected publications include: Ochsner, Jeffrey Karl. Lionel H. Pries, architect, artist, educator: from arts and crafts to modern architecture. Seattle: University of Washington Press, 2007. |
