Professor Rutherford instructs classes in transportation planning and engineering. His current research interests include transit management and productivity, microcomputer applications to transportation planning and management, and travel demand forecasting. He has been a consultant to local agencies on transit projects and travel forecasting. As Director of the Washington State Transportation Center he has been responsible for the development and management of the Transportation Center, a joint research center located at the University of Washington and including participation of the University of Washington, Washington State University and the Washington State Department of Transportation. TRAC performs research for a variety of agencies and also serves the private section. Dr. Rutherford received his M.S. in Civil Engineering from Washington State University, his Ph.D. in Transportation Planning and Engineering from Northwestern, and joined the University of Washington in 1981.
