Department Scholarships

DEPARTMENT SCHOLARSHIP

Each spring quarter, the Department of Landscape Architecture awards a number of scholarships. Applications can be picked up in the department office, 348 Gould Hall, a couple weeks before the scholarships are awarded. Decisions are made by the department faculty, and scholarship winners are announced at the College of Architecture and Urban Planning's Annual Recognition Day.

The available scholarships are:

Terry Clark Gerrard Memorial Scolarship
Established by friends and family to honor him as one of the profession's most respected members and to help promising students complete their education:

Jay Bee Memorial Scholarship

Donald K Sakuma Memorial Scholarship
Established by the friends, colleagues, and family of Professor Sakuma as a memorial to the excellence of his work

Washington State Federation of Garden Clubs Scholarship

Seattle Association of Women in Architecture Scholarship

Jones and Jones Fellowship

Matsutaro Kawaguchi Scholarship

Jack and Virginia Sproule Scholarship

WASLA Scholarship
The Washington Chapter of ASLA will award two $1,000 scholarships. One will be awarded to a student of landscape architecture at Washington State University and one to a student of landscape architecture at the University of Washington.

Eligibility: The applicant must be an undergraduate student in the landscape architecture program at Washington State University or the University of Washington. The applicant must also be a student member of ASLA.

Submittal Requirements: Scholarship application is due on or before February 1, 2001 and the scholarship will be awarded by Marsh 31, 2001. The Scholarship submittal will consist of a one page letter and an essay. The letter will present the following information: name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, year in school, grade point average in and out of major (attach college transcript), description of extra curricular activities and a description of how the applicant's education is funded. Two letters of recommendation are required, only one of which can be from a professor or instructor from a landscape architecture program.

The second section of the submittal is an essay describing a landscape in Washington that has shaped or influenced your perception of landscape architecture. The essay shall not exceed 1,000 words. The essay shall be type-written, double spaced, 1 inch margins, 12 pt. on standard, white paper.
