Assistant Professor Green Construction & Computing
Applications are invited for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank in the Department of Landscape Architecture, University of Washington, to commence 16 September 2008. The Department offers professional MLA and BLA degrees and is well positioned for interdisciplinary collaborations with allied disciplines and for participation in interdisciplinary College-wide Ph.D. programs. The Department maintains strong ties to federal, state and local agencies and organizations for teaching and research projects. Responsibilities
We seek an innovative and dynamic colleague whose teaching and research will unite design and green construction using a range of digital tools and will advance the Department’s agenda of urban ecological design. The selected colleague will conduct research in his or her focus area, teach graduate and undergraduate design studios, participate in thesis advising and offer lecture and seminar courses in sustainable landscape construction, and the application of computing and digital technologies to design.
Qualifications
A professional degree in landscape architecture. The potential for, or a demonstrated record of, innovative teaching and research. An eagerness to collaborate within and across academic disciplines and to build on the department’s strong record of collaboration with government agencies, non-profit organizations and community groups.
Program
The Department of Landscape Architecture <http://www.caup.washington.edu/larch/> is one of four departments in a design and planning college in one of the country’s largest research institutions. Our two accredited degree programs enroll approximately 90 students and are taught by eight permanent faculty as well as lecturers from the professional community. Faculty are nationally and internationally recognized for expertise in green infrastructure, open space planning, therapeutic landscapes, learning environments, public housing, community design and design/build. The University of Washington, Seattle, and the Pacific Northwest offer unparalleled opportunities for innovative research into ecologically sustainable human habitation in diverse natural environments.
