PROJECTS Maynard Avenue Green Street Project (2004-present). Field research, concept development, and preliminary design for streetscape and community open space improvement on Maynard Avenue between S. Jackson Street and S. Main Street. Project team: Jeffrey Hou, Keiko Shimada, Kaila Yun. Ilan Children's Park Master Plan (2004-2005). Project consultant for the planning of a 30-hectare riverfront park that include a museum, a research center, adventure playground, and water activities. Ilan Office, Building and Planning Research Foundation. Edge Habitat(s). Seattle Waterfront Visioning Charrette (2004). Design Lead for a project titled “Edge Habitat(s).” Team member: Marcie Demmy Bidwell, Michael Espenan, Stephanie Hurley, Melissa Medeiros, Travis Scrivner, Keiko Shimada, Erik Stromberg, Wilma Stordahl, Amy Tanner, Megan Wilson. Seattle Waterfront Design Collaborative (2003). Team member for a project titled “Structure for Resilience.” The project envisions a hybrid landscape built upon multiple tendencies of the site. Team leader: Joel Egan. Urban Design Master Plan for Chinatown, Japantown, Little Saigon – International District Seattle (2002-2003). Technical advisor to the Community Advisory Board. The plan addresses streetscape and open space design to revitalize the historic, multiethnic neighborhood. Union Point Park Master Plan, Oakland (1998-1999). Project consultant for the master planning of a 9-acre waterfront park in the Fruitvale District of Oakland, CA. Initiated by the Unity Council, a community-based organization, the partners in this project included local governments, state agencies, non-profit organizations, design firms and university faculty and students. National Center for Traditional Arts -- Detailed Plan, I-Lan County, Taiwan (1994-1996). Project Manager for the detailed master plan of a 24-hectare premier cultural complex in Taiwan. Scheduled to be completed by 2004, the complex is envisioned to showcase and develop traditional arts in Taiwan. It features theaters, museum, shop-houses, a drama school, craft-making workshop, etc., at a riverfront site. I-Lan County Performing Art Center, Taiwan (1990-1997). Project designer for master plan, schematic design and design development of this 600-seat theater complex. Designed as the first thrust-stage theater in Taiwan and completed in 1997, the project was awarded the Best Public Architecture by the Taiwan Architect Magazine in 1998. Lihtegan Comprehensive Community Building Project, I-Lan County, Taiwan (1996). Project director for a community-building project to involve local residents in revitalizing a coastal community surrounding a historic street in I-Lan County, Taiwan. The project led to funding for subsequent projects of ecological restoration and development of a waterfront park along a local river. I-Lan County Historic Space Conservation Plan -- Phase Two, Taiwan (1995-1996). Project manager for a study of 18 historic sites in the I-Lan County, including site survey and strategies of conservation and adaptive reuse. The project led to the preservation of two historic aboriginal Atayal granaries, and the establishment of the Historic Conservation Commission under the County Government. Community Improvement Plan for Iraralai Village, Pongso-No-Ta'u (1994-1995). Project planner for a community improvement plan for the indigenous community of Ta'u, on the Island of Pongso-no-Ta'u, Southeast of Taiwan. The project led to funding for rebuilding of dilapidated government-built dwellings on the island and the design of a demonstration house based on patterns of traditional Ta'u architecture. |
