RESEARCH
Daniel's current research is focused in three areas. Two are focused on
accessing the psychological affects of people's interactions with the land
and how they might positively affect their quality of life. The last focuses
on technology and design. His primary research questions include:
Can interactions with gardens, landscapes or nature
play a role in the healing process and in palliative care for those experiencing
a decline in their mental or physical health? If so, what are the measurable
benefits they provide?
How do landscapes express the cultural life of specific displaced
communities?
How can access to or the creation of landscapes/gardens
help alleviate stresses in the readaptive process of immigration?
How are technological developments changing the
practice and aesthetics of landscape design? How can landscape architecture
better respond to global concerns such as, contamination, remeadiation
and sustainable development through design and material development?
The therapeutic garden research is proceeding under a University of Washington
Medical Center and a NUFAC grant for "Healing Nature: The Psychological,
Social and Spiritual Effects of Nature in the Hospice Care Environment" is
pending. Co-investigator in these projects is Anne Kearney, Forestry, UW. |
