Master of Urban Planning

Specialization: Real Estate & Urban Redevelopment
The Department has recently embarked upon a program to strengthen and expand its specialization in the area of urban redevelopment and real estate. To this end, the Interdisciplinary Certificate in Real Estate and Urban Redevelopment program has been established. The program focuses on the relationships between the development profession and planning and design as manifested in public and private processes of analysis and decision-making at both the policy and individual project scales. Graduate students and advanced undergraduates who desire a basic background in this area may take a series of six courses currently offered within the department: Introduction to Real Estate Finance, Urban Development Processes, Urban Economics and Development, Real Estate Finance and Capital Formation, Investment Case Studies, and Market Analysis. For graduate students interested in pursuing an emphasis in urban development, additional courses are offered or are in the process of development including Locational Analysis, Evaluation, Location Theory, advanced urban economics, housing, public finance, project finance, design/construction, and law as it applies to land use and development.

The Department's Professionals Council, together with the Departmental faculty, are currently working on refining the research and academic components of this program.
