The Runstad Center for Real Estate Studies At the University of Washington, real estate is approached as an interdisciplinary field, drawing on a variety of related disciplines. Our primary customers include our students, our colleagues, our industry and alliance partners, and the companies who hire our students. We also seek to support the various industry associations in which we are involved, and the public at large. This broad scope reflects our efforts to leverage our "scale," drawing on our breadth and depth to provide industry leadership and support. We recognize that real estate is a unique discipline, which, in addition to having its own unique body of thought, draws heavily on other fields. Examples of such fields include planning, architecture, construction, law, geography, marketing, finance and public affairs. At the same time, the discipline and its related fields are undergoing continuous change. This dynamic makes it imperitive that we establish a proper foundation, and then make sure that this foundation is managed in a proactive manner. To achieve this goal and ensure that we understand these forces, we have developed a close relationship with industry professionals and associations. Through this interaction, we believe we can open the doors to create a rich, synergistic relationship that can benefit both the academic and professional communities.
The Center will provide the core outreach and service functions for the Department, animated by the same social, economic, and environmental values.
