Real Estate Specialization
Overview
The curriculum of study for the Real Estate Specialization is designed to provide students with a broad set of skills to help them launch or enhance professional careers. As such, they build on a common foundation of three core courses: Real Estate Process or Real Estate Fundamentals, Real Estate Finance, and Real Estate Appraisal & Feasibility Analysis. These courses are sequenced to provide incremental learning and ensure that students are exposed to the fundamental skills and knowledge upon which the discipline is built.
The Real Estate Specialization requires a minimum of six related courses including: the three core courses (i.e., Real Estate Process, Real Estate Finance, and Real Estate Appraisal & Feasibility Analysis); two elective real estate courses (see: Exhibit 2) and an additional course from the real estate electives or from a list of approved electives. In addition to formal course requirements, students pursuing the Concentration must complete a capstone experience, which may consist of a thesis, depending on the requirements of the program through which they receive their graduate degree. All students should have approved programs of study to ensure they satisfy the requirements for real estate designations. If scheduling permits, students are encouraged to take additional courses drawn from a list of interdisciplinary electives. Students who are required to complete a thesis must have a real estate faculty member or designee as the chair or a member of the thesis committee.

Typical Program of Study
The Real Estate Specialization can be completed in 1.5-2 years, depending on a student’s major and workload. The Program employs a formal sequencing of courses to benefit from incremental learning. The Real Estate Process course serves as the introductory course upon which other courses are built.
