Other Student Support
As part of its efforts to help students fund their academic careers, interface with industry and launch their professional careers, the Runstad Center is identifying, recruiting, organizing and promoting a range of activities to support students. The funding for these initiatives comes from general operating funds, private source and proceeds from the Bob Filley Student Support Fund.
- Fellowships. The Runstad Center Advisory Committee has helped raise over $400,000 in student fellowships for qualifying graduate students. These fellowships are awarded through the Runstad Center for Real Estate Studies.
- Scholarships. The Runstad Center has helped create direct funding for a number of scholarships and servers as a clearinghouse for external and industry-based opportunities.
Some recent examples include:
- CCIM Educational Foundation (deadline, November 15, 2008)
- ICSC Educational Foundation
- Pension Real Estate Association
- Commercial Brokers Association
- Mentoring. The Runstad Center is developing a mentoring program that links real estate students with leading industry professionals, drawing from a diverse, interdisciplinary pool of volunteers.
- Internships. Over the past several years, the Runstad Center has helped place 30-40 students in internships; this activity will expand/contract to match the pool of students with available opportunities.
- Job Placement. The Runstad Center, through its website, has developed an active job placement program for current and future students and friends of the program. In addition, students have access to the Real-Jobs network.
- Career Planning. The Runstad Center has launched a Real Estate Forum that brings leading professionals into an interactive, classroom setting in which career opportunities, paths, and strategies are discussed.
