Circulation: Borrowing by CAUP Students

35mm slides:

Students in CAUP classes may have access to the Collection if their CAUP faculty member assigns a class presentation; browsing or using the Collection as a general research facility is NOT encouraged. If required by their CAUP faculty to make a 35mm slide presentation for a class or studio, the student may only remove the slides from the collection for the duration of the presentation. Students may put the slides on reserve a week ahead in anticipation of their presentation, but these reserved slides remain on the reserve shelf in the Collection until then. Faculty may remove these slides if they need them for lectures.

Students are encouraged to introduce themselves to Collection staff, explain the nature of their presentation, and remember that the Collection is primarily a teaching facility for the college faculty. It is suggested that the student do preliminary research on a topic before visiting the Collection.

35mm
slides are circulated by a check-out card system. Students use pink cards, writing their last names on the cards they use. A signed card is then inserted in place of each slide borrowed from the drawers or the racks. Slides on reserve are placed on top of the returns bins area with the students name on the boxes of slides.

When 35mm slides are removed from the room, students must fully fill out a Student Slide Checkout form, providing full name, address, phone number, e-mail address, and CAUP class they are required to present slides in. Please ask for assistance! Collection staff will re-file returned slides; the penciled names will be erased and the cards can then be re-used.

Sometimes the Visual Resources Collection can be a useful resource for locating a hard-to-find image, or for suggesting a book source for research. Please ask the Director or the student staff for help with this type of problem. The original source for the 35mm slide can often be cited for the student if an illustration in a paper is needed. Students should NOT make copies from collection slides and should discuss this with the Director for further information.

Digital images:

Graduate students in the College may request access to the digital image collections for educational purposes only. Undergradute students in CAUP classes may have access to the Collection's digital images if their CAUP faculty member assigns a class presentation. Please contact the Director for student level access to the Collection.

Undergraduate students not enrolled in CAUP classes do not have access to the Visual Resources Collection.
